Ronaldo breaks La Liga scoring record

Cristiano Ronaldo broke the Primera Division record for goals in a single season after netting his 39th and 40th in an 8-1 thrashing of Almeria.

Ronaldo move two clear of the previous all-time record, which he jointly held (before the game) with Real Madrid’s Hugo Sanchez, from the 1989-90 season, and the legendary Athletic Bilbao striker Telmo Zarra, who achieved the feat during the 1959-60 campaign.

He scored a total of 53 goals in all competition this season, including the match winner to win the Copa del Rey. Too bad Real couldn’t win the La Liga or Champions League despite his excellent form.

Barcelona trashed Real Madrid 5-0 in Nou Camp. Everything was going wrong for Real and Ronaldo, he was lucky to still stay on the field until the end of the game. Even as a fan I’m not impressed with his antics, including this one where he pushed Barca’s coach Pep Guardiola:

No other Real Madrid player had scored ten goals in four consecutive league games before Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese star has scored ten goals in four consecutive league games, becoming the first Real Madrid player to do so, and 13 strikes overall in the 9 games he played in October.

Ronaldo’s next objective will be to break Puskas’ record 13 goals in seven consecutive games during the 1959/60 and 1960/61 seasons.

Cristiano scored two of Real Madrid’s goals in the team’s 6-1 victory over Deportivo, netted four for the first time in his career against Racing (4-1) and tallied another two against Hercules (3-1).

Cristiano Ronaldo happy with first Real season

Cristiano Ronaldo is satisfied with his first season at Real Madrid even though it looks destined to end trophyless. The 25-year-old has scored 26 goals in 28 La Liga games since moving to the Bernabéu from Manchester United for a world-record £80m last summer.

Madrid head into this weekend’s final round of fixtures a point behind Barcelona. Manuel Pellegrini’s side must win at Málaga and hope Barça fail to beat Real Valladolid at Camp Nou if they are to pip their rivals to the title.

Regardless of the outcome this weekend, though, Ronaldo is content with how things are progressing in the Spanish capital.

“I really enjoyed the season that I’ve done, but what’s missing is winning a title,” he said. “I’m very happy here in Madrid and my team-mates have helped me a lot, but the team has not won anything. We have to keep fighting and I am confident we will win many titles (in future).”
