Cristiano Ronaldo said the players at Real Madrid are happier under the leadership of Jose Mourinho.

The Special One took over the reign at the Santiago Bernabeu during the summer and has enjoyed an unbeaten start to the La Liga season and a perfect record in the Champions League, where they beat AC Milan 2-0 in their last match on Tuesday.

Ronaldo, who scored with a free-kick in the win against Milan, is enjoying every single moment working under Mourinho and expressed his ambition of winning the Champions League with his compatriot.

“With Mourinho, everyone is happier. When things do not run well it is normal for people to feel sad, but this season things are going great. I thank God that everything is going well.

“Mourinho is fantastic. I am thankful that he came here because with his experience and with all the titles he has won, it is good to work with him. I always said I wanted him to train me, and my colleagues are also delighted to work with him. I hope we win the Champions League.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he would be happy to see Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho take charge of Real Madrid next season.

In 2007, while Mourinho was with Chelsea and Ronaldo with Manchester United, the duo had a public disagreement. However, Ronaldo has since spoken positively of Mourinho and recent reports suggest Madrid are now considering bringing the Portuguese to the Bernabeu after a disappointing first season for Manuel Pellegrini.

Mourinho has indicated that he is unhappy in Italy following a series of disagreements with the press and rival managers, and Ronaldo has said he would be more than happy to work under his compatriot.

“He is a special coach,” he said on Sky Sports News. “He has shown that he is one of the best in the world so maybe the people don’t like him because he is top, his character, he is a special person.

“I know him very well. I like him a lot. I know his character – he is a winning guy. This is why the people don’t like him. Madrid he’d change a lot – he’d buy new players, new coach.”

The war of words took a twist as Ronaldo revealed that he has received a personal apology from his fellow countryman; he said: “Mourinho has apologised to me and now I have no problem with him.

“I am pleased that this has happened. As far as I am concerned, the whole thing is now in the past.”

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to bring an end to the ongoing disagreement between Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese pair traded caustic remarks through the media late last week before Mourinho brought into question the winger’s upbringing and education.

“We’ll try to draw a line under this, of course,” said Sir Alex, who was understandably keen to focus on the small matter of his side’s Champions League semi-final decider in Milan.

“Maybe the tactic is to unsettle the boy, I don’t know. He’s barking up the wrong tree there, but I think he was below the belt bringing class into it. Coming from a poor working class does not mean to say you’re not educated.”

The United boss did praise Ronaldo, however, for not being drawn into a high-profile slanging match with the Stamford Bridge chief.

“What Ronaldo has got is principles,” said Sir Alex. “The boy’s not responded to it whereas some people who are educated have no principles, so we’re leaving the matter that way.”

The war of words between Ronaldo and Mourinho hasn’t ended yet, as the Chelsea manager accused the Manchester United winger of “not showing maturity and respect” and attributed that to a “difficult childhood” with “no education.”

It started when Mourinho claimed on Sunday (Apr 22) that there was a new rule in English football, where United could not concede a penalty and Chelsea could not win one.

Ronaldo later was reported to have told Portuguese television that Jose Mourinho doesn’t know how to admit his own failures; and Mourinho retaliated by calling Ronaldo a liar.

Alex Ferguson on Friday commented that Mourinho has no respect for others and should be punished by FA for the penalty comment.

Then, in the aftermath of Chelsea’s 2-2 draw at home to Bolton on Saturday which saw them slip five points behind Premiership leaders United, Mourinho was asked about comments Sir Alex Ferguson had made in response to the row.

Mourinho said: “It’s a game where a kid had some statements not very… not showing maturity and respect, maybe difficult childhood, no education, maybe the consequence of that. Sir Alex felt he had to protect his boy. But normal things… I have no problems with him (Ferguson). I have no problem with the boy.”

It started when Mourinho claimed on Sunday (Apr 22) that there was a new rule in English football, where United could not concede a penalty and Chelsea could not win one. Mourinho was referring to spot-kicks both Sheffield United and Middlesbrough felt they should have been given at Old Trafford and a penalty he thought Chelsea should have had at Newcastle.

“The whole world knows how he is,” Ronaldo later was reported to have told Portuguese television.

Double footballer of the year Ronaldo has been in sparkling form this season but has been criticised by some for going to ground too easily.

And Mourinho said: ‘Ronaldo is a big player. But if he wants to be a bigger one, he must be fair with his opponents.

‘The final should be played with happiness. I’ll be disappointed if some players are diving and trying to get the opposition red cards on Saturday.

‘I don’t want to see any provocation.

‘It will be sad if it is not a good and fair event – with good winners and proud losers.’
