Cristiano Ronaldo says talks have begun about extending his contract with Manchester United beyond 2010.

The Portuguese winger still has over three years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford, but speculation about his future is rife.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are both believed to be admirers of Ronaldo.

However, United are keen to tie the 22-year-old to a new long-term contract and put to bed any talk of an imminent departure.

Discussions have taken place between The Red Devils and Ronaldo’s representatives, with the former Sporting Lisbon man hoping to put pen to paper soon.

“We have talked and I hope to reach an agreement as soon as possible,” Ronaldo told Portuguese radio station Antena 1.

“Nothing has been decided yet and I would like to stay.”
