Ronaldo is given a week holiday by Sir Alex Ferguson; the Portugese star is expected to play again in mid-week EPL game against Watford.
Real Madrid will offer £35m for the Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, according to sources close to the club’s sporting director, Pedrag Mijatovic.
The Spanish side expect United to stonewall advan-ces for their biggest asset but are banking on the player’s head being turned by the prospect of becoming the club’s biggest signing since the capture of Zinedine Zidane from Juventus in 2001 and the prospect of replacing David Beckham, not just on the pitch but off it as the new face of Real.
A £35m deal would be the third biggest of all time, behind Zidane’s £44m move and Luis Figo’s £37m switch from Barcelona to Real.
Now the statistics back it up - Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the best player in the Premiership.
The Portuguese winger is ranked in first place in Actim Index’s player ratings system. Actim Index, the league’s official statisticians, rank Ronaldo above Chelsea striker Didier Drogba in their ratings system, which awards points for a positive impact on matches.
Eric Cantona’s No.7 shirt is now being worn with pride by Cristiano Ronaldo; and the Frenchman is a huge fan of his successor.
Cantona said: “Ronaldo needed to gain some experience and needed to score goals, and now he is a world-class player. It can be difficult for him [the abuse] from supporters of other clubs, but not from the supporters of Manchester United. He plays for them and he is one of the family. It is exactly the same case with Wayne Rooney.”
Cantona, who was speaking at the ICE Exhibition at Earls Court in London yesterday, says the current United team could emulate the feat of the 1999 Treble-winning team.
“They are strong, but they have to prove they are a great team. They can do it [win the treble] and they need to do it,” he said. “Last year United had a new team and it was a new generation. But I was sure they would become the best because you are stronger when you start with a new generation of players.”
Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to offer Cristiano Ronaldo a jaw-dropping £26million to keep him at Old Trafford.
Sport of the World can reveal Fergie has invited Ronaldo’s representatives to discuss terms over a new double-your-money five-year deal worth £100,000 a week.
A source close to the Portuguese star revealed he is almost certain to snub the attentions of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The source said: “United are a massive club and Cristiano will in all likelihood stay there for many years.”
Ronaldo’s current deal, which he signed 14 months ago, is worth £50,000 a week and runs to 2010, with a further two-year option.
But the United ace is set to be awarded a bumper pay-hike following his stunning performances this term, where 13 goals have made him favourite for Footballer of the Year.
The new deal will put him on a par with Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand, who are United’s highest earners.
Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has set his sights on becoming the first player to win three straight Barclays Premiership player of the month awards.
The Portugal international joined an elite club containing just Robbie Fowler and Dennis Bergkamp when he collected back-to-back awards for his performances in November and December.
And now the 21-year-old wants to rewrite the Premiership record books by stringing together another set of dazzling performances in January.
“To be player of the month three times in a row? I work for it, because that means I’m helping the team and that’s my ultimate goal,” Ronaldo told the Manchester Evening News.
Manchester United captain Gary Neville has joined in the praise for Cristiano Ronaldo…
“He has all the attributes you need to be a world class player – power and strength, plus the pace to go either way. Not only that, he can shoot with both feet as well as head the ball. It is exciting to play alongside someone like Cristiano, as they do not come along too often.” [Source]
Swedish veteran Henrik Larsson, who just joins United on loan for a couple of weeks, has hailed his team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo as Europe’s top player, ranking him above even former Barcelona colleague Ronaldhino. [Source]
