Cristiano Ronaldo scored a double again, this time against Reading to give Manchester United a 3-2 victory.
This is the 3rd successive game that Ronaldo had found the net twice; he done it at the mid-week match against Wigan, and also on last weekend against Aston Villa.
Ronaldo first provided United’s opening goal, putting in a clean cross for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on 33rd minute.
The recent performances from Cristiano Ronaldo has won praise from Reading boss Steve Coppell.
Coppell has tipped Ronaldo as one of the top performer in EPL so far, and that Ronaldo could be one of the Old Trafford great.
Coppell was a United player for 8-years in 70s/80s and one of the best winger during his era. He is currently the manager of Reading, the team that’s going to face Manchester United this weekend.
Edwin van der Sar has challenged Cristiano Ronaldo to break the 20-goal mark this season.
After netting four times in two games over the festive period so far, Ronaldo is already into double figures and well on the way to matching the target of 15 set in the summer by manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
But Van der Sar believes it is time Ronaldo re-set his sights on the basis that another five goals from the 21-year-old this season could make all the difference as the title battle with Chelsea hots up in the new year.
“Cristiano is in a good spell right now,” said the veteran Dutchman.
“He has been scoring goals and playing well for a couple of months.
“I know the manager has set him a target of 15 goals for this season but I think we should maybe lift that a little bit now.
“If he gets to 20, then we will certainly have a good chance.”
Cristiano Ronaldo came in as 2nd half substitute and scored twice in 5 minutes, leading Manchester United to win 3-1 against Wigan at Old Trafford.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson rested some key players at the start, but decided to bring on Ronaldo after a disappointing first half.
Ronaldo answered the call and scored just after a minute on the pitch from a fine header. He should have scored the penalty a couple minutes later, but it didn’t matter as he poked in the rebound after Wigan’s keeper blocked his initial spot kick.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored the 3rd for United; while Leighton Baines claimed a consolation goal at injury time with a penalty kick.
In the end, it’s Ronaldo magic once again that led Manchester United to victory, and extending their lead at the Premiership table to 4 points ahead of Chelsea.
