Ronaldo has opened a boutique in his hometown Funchal, Madeira. He used his initials and shirt number to name the trendy new store CR7.

Cristiano has been very involved in choosing kit for this upmarket store. CR7 is stuffed with T-shirts and jeans for fellas, as well as clothes, handbags, necklaces and belts for the girls.

And the star has picked a glam range of funky jewellery for the fellas too, including chunky shark-tooth bracelets and necklaces.

While Cristiano is in Britain earning his £31million five-year pay packet with United, he has hired sisters Katia and Elma as managers to run the place.

Within hours the shop was mobbed. One fan said: “Cristiano has made everyone on the island very proud. It’s fitting he chose his birth city for the shop.”

Cristiano Ronaldo needs to maintain his current form for another two years before he can be called one of the world’s greatest players, claims Pele, the man regarded by many as the game’s finest player.

The Brazilian, who won three World Cups, said Ronaldo was “one of the good players” but it was too soon to call him one of the best in the world.

“To mention him as one of the best players in the world is very soon… We have Kaka, who plays very well, too.

“Four or five years ago, we had Ronaldinho in good shape. We have to wait a little bit. Let’s see, in one or two more years, if they keep at the same level.”

Premiership leaders Manchester United dominate the nominations for the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award, with man of the moment Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes all making the six-man shortlist.

Reading striker Kevin Doyle, 23, Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon, 19, and 18-year-old defender Micah Richards, of Manchester City, who won his first England caps this season, are the other nominees.

John Terry believes the momentum is with Chelsea ahead of a potential hat-trick of showdowns against Manchester United. Yet, at a time when Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho might be shaping up for an exchange of mind games, the England captain is making no secret of his deep admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“For me he is the best in the world at the moment,” said Terry. “How do I stop him? I pass him on to Ashley Cole.

“I totally admire the player after the stick he got,” he said. “He has done so well on and off the pitch and, honestly, I could watch Man United just to watch him. He does things with the ball you don’t see anyone else in the world doing. When he is at his best I don’t think there are many people who can stop him.

“When he runs at you with his tricks and his skills you don’t know which way he is going. If you double up on him he passes to [Wayne] Rooney and he does it. Where do you stop? You can’t double up on everyone. It’s a case of us defending very well.”
